Date of next meeting: Tuesday 29th May 2012 at 6pm in the village hall.
River Working Party
Last year a completely new Rattlesden Parish Council took over, and these new councillors agreed to create a feeling of confidence within the residents by activating various projects in the village which would involve everyone and show that they can make a difference.
The most successful of these projects so far, has been the clearing of overgrown shrubs and trees on the banks of the river Rat. which had begun to cause a problem to people using the footpath and obscuring the view of the road. A regular core of regular Volunteers soon developed, organised by Chard Wadley who is very experienced in river control, having worked for many years on river restoration in this area. These volunteers meet on designated Saturday mornings, turning out with their protective clothes and gardening equipment, a local farmer lends his tractor for transporting the debris, and the appreciative response by villagers has been very rewarding.
Having also cleared out gullys at the road side that had become completely silted up, the water in the river is flowing freely, and we are looking forward to seeing ducks swimming in the river again this Summer! A truly satisfying result. When the work is completed, regular maintenance will continue to keep it looking good. (See Photo Gallery)
